Spark your interests

Updated: Aug 22, 2020

They told me once: "Your future self would be so proud of you! You just need the patience to get there.” But how do I know that I am getting somewhere? How do I know that it will all be okay and that I will be who, where, and how I want to be? Life is so unpredictable, how will I do it?

It’s scary thinking about the future and trying to convince yourself that you will do great even though you have all the doubts in the world. So that leaves you with one question: "Will I make it?”. You never know until you’ve actually made it. And how do you know that everything will be fine? You don’t. You just have to wait. So, yes, it all does go back to patience afterward...

Nowadays, career is a big part of our identity. Our metaphorical journey through work, experience, and learning, sometimes defines us more than we want, to the point where we get called "career women”, or not.

Most of the times, these stereotypes can put us under a lot of pressure and can produce a lot of stress for us to take on, since making a career choice can lead to many question marks when undecided.

However, choosing a career that would suit yourself and your interests the most is only an exercise of introspection and shouldn’t be so demanding for you. Therefore, here are some tips you could take into consideration when choosing your path.

Identify your skills.

What have I trained myself to do? What are my expertise areas? What is my talent?

Each of us is good at a specific thing and would be able to do it with no hesitation. Take some time for yourself and think about what you can do best, then analyze how those skills would help you lean towards a career.

Identify your goals.

What do I need the most in my life? What do I want the most in my life? What do I wish to have in my life?

All these questions can help you find the goals you need to achieve in order to be in the right place for you. Explore yourself! Create a vision board, or think about all the wish lists you made throughout your life, then think about what you need to “satisfy” them.

Identify your dreams.

What do I enjoy most doing? Where do I want to live? What is meaningful to me?

You can be anything you want to be, but when it comes to your career, you have to find something you love to do. If it is the other way around, you will not be able to maintain your happiness. And yes, you need that in your life, because most of the times this is what keeps us going.

Now, have you identified your career? If still not, don’t worry, because sooner or later, you will find something that works for you, you will find the occupation you love. Each of us has her own path, and you’re getting there, even though you might not feel it.

Trust yourself and follow your heart, but don’t forget to remain rational about everything you do. There’s no recipe or secret for doing what you find most enjoyable, but hard work will always pay off. Stay concentrated, stay confident, and stay ambitious. In the end,

OWN WHO YOU ARE!
