Chase Yourself

Time is divided into years, months, weeks, days, minutes, and seconds. At every point in time, it is us that is present. We are who we spend most- if not all- of our time with. Yet, the significance of cultivating a deeper relationship with oneself has often been placed on the backburner.

The media – print and online, has frequently fed us narratives of romantic love as being the most divine of relationships and connections. However, that is not true. What is most pure is the relationship we build with ourselves, our inner beings, and our soul.

Some of us spend the first half of our lives dedicating and investing our love and energy into another being – which is of course okay, so long as you’re not pouring from an empty cup. We neglect ourselves. We are unaware of how much we silence what our bodies are trying to tell us. Maybe it senses inauthentic energy. Maybe it senses that we deserve more than what is being offered to us.

More often than not, we spend our time chasing. Chasing for the next person, for the current person, for a past person. Why do we not chase ourselves? If we are too busy chasing others, who is chasing us? Who is investing in us?

We need to invest in ourselves. We are our best investment. Building a relationship with yourself, a deeper, meaningful one, is the most beautiful of relationships to exist. See yourself through your eyes. Understand yourself through your own definition of what love is. Give yourself the love you’ve been giving others. Because you’re worth it. You’re worth the investment.
